Many people are surprised to learn that supplements and herbs are not regulated by the FDA. This lack of regulation means that commercial manufacturers are free to claim basically whatever they want to. However, supplement manufacturers CAN voluntarily have their products tested by an independent third party laboratory. This helps ensure that what’s on their label is true and accurate. All the products in my store comply with this standard.
Also, as a naturopathic doctor, I received extensive nutritional training in medical school and continue to research nutrition for my patients. I regularly do my own investigation of supplements and herbs before prescribing them to my patients or putting them in our online store. These are medical grade products, meaning that I prescribe them to treat illnesses, much like a conventional doctor would prescribe pharmaceutical drugs.
I know that there are online sites where products are less expensive. Often that’s because the manufacturers aren’t using the highest quality ingredients nor are they paying for independent laboratory testing. As a doctor, I only want products that meet my own standards for honesty and reliability. Most of the ones in my store are made by smaller companies at a higher quality, independently tested, and offered primarily to health professionals, like myself. That said, because my purpose in having a store is more medical than business, I have arranged for our pricing to meet -- or even be less -- than Amazon's.
